177.0 True Food!

There's a new restaurant fairly close to where we live (nothing is really very close) called True Food. Rumor has it that Dr. Andrew Weil, the noted expert on natural health and wellness, is the brains behind the menu. I love this restaurant. Jeff thinks its way too healthy and never feels satisfied no matter what he orders. Last night we both had a fresh kale salad with a delicious lemony, parmesan cheese dressing, and I fear it was loaded with salt! So maybe this place isn't way too healthy after all. I also had salmon and quinoa with diced beets. It was so good, but why the bump up in the weight? Oh well, lots of water and I'll be fine by tomorrow, I hope!

171.8 Pay Attention, Sue!

I just looked back through my posts to see when it was that I weighed this much and it was more than a month ago. The good news is that since reaching my goal I've been able to maintain my weight around the 170 mark pretty well. The bad news is that I've bumped up and I need to pay attention. I need to pay attention. One more time, I need to pay attention.

Now I could go through a litany of reasons why this fate has befallen me, and I will because I need to be aware of why I think this has happened. Yes, it's about salt, it's about too many nuts just before bed, and it's about being a little too cocky about how I've been handling food options. It's also about less exercise due to weather and PT constraints. It's about the fact my walking buddy left for about a month. (Thankfully she's back!) So I'm back to the basics, and returning to the stricter discipline. It's time to reverse this trend.

179.9 So, There You Go!

My dog Charlee wants me to share my raw carrots with her. I do give her snap peas, but raw carrots? I don't think so. My kids used to choke on raw carrots when they were little, and Charlee is very little.

It was the salt! That's all I can think of that caused my weight to jump up again. Last night we took Greek olives, marinated mushrooms, artichoke hearts, etc. for an appetizer at the party we went to. The platter looked gorgeous and it all tasted great, and it was all low calorie, but not low salt. Since the other appetizer was brie with fig jam, I stuck to the salt laden foods that we brought.

Night before last, we took a platter of all fresh veges to another party. You know, sometimes, I just want something different, and so there you go! Don't you think salt is better than fat over the long haul?

So that's why I am crunching on raw carrots tonight, and no Charlee, I'm not giving in.

184.4 It's Life, A Great Life!

We celebrated Father's Day yesterday at a very special restaurant so I'm not surprised by the bump up in weight today. As my sister said, and she always knows what to say to make me feel a little better, "Sue, the food was loaded with salt and sugar." And, I'm sure she's right!

When I do the cooking, which is most of the time, salt and sugar are not ingredients that I use with abandon. Tonight I'm making a pasta dish that Oprah's cook, Rosie, used to prepare for her. There is no salt or sugar in the recipe, only fresh tomatoes, garlic, lemon juice, chopped basil and angel hair pasta. I won't eat much of the pasta but I will enjoy every bite! Oh yeah, it also has a little white wine in it. And, I'll thaw out some shrimp to eat with it. I can hardly wait!

188.4 It Was The Salt!

We have house guests so I will make this short!

Two things are on my mind...since I dropped more than a pound overnight, I can say with confidence that it was the salt and I will not make the mistake of overdosing on pickles ever again! I promise!

And, this morning I broke my all time high elliptical record and was on it for 34 minutes! When I think back to my post entitled "Climbing Mt. Everest", written last November, in which I detailed the exhaustion and pain of working out on it for less than one minute, I am filled with smiles!

Have a great weekend, everybody. Since our friends will be here until Tuesday, I may not post everyday, but who knows?

199.0 Hangin' In There

I am writing this first thing in the morning and I am in a funk! I thought I was on my way down without these mega jumps on the scale. Obviously, that isn't true. Knowing me through this blog or as a friend, you know that I have put out all sorts of reasons why this occurs, blaming it on salt, lack of exercise, what I did the night before or what I did 2 days earlier. And you know what the truth is...I don't know.

So what do I know? That I am mad and now instead of eating when I get mad, I tend to become more determined to hold the course. And I am embarrassed. These are the times when I wish I didn't do this blog because I am putting my struggles out there for all to see.

So dear followers and first timers, hang in there with me. Using hypnosis, staying present, listening to my inner spirit and exercising, how can I not lose more weight? And, knowing you are in this with me helps so much to keep me going.
